Auditions
Convivium invites experienced singers of all voice parts to audition for the fall and spring seasons. The group rehearses Tuesday evenings at Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill in Alexandria, Virginia and will begin the fall season on September 9. About Convivium
Convivium is an a cappella choral group specializing in Renaissance, Tudor, and 20th and 21st century repertoire. Now in its 23rd season, Convivium has extensive performance experience in the Washington metropolitan area, including appearances at the Kennedy Center, at Alexandria's Lyceum and Christ Church, and Washington's Dumbarton United Methodist Church and Wesley Theological Seminary. Convivium rehearses and performs regularly at Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill in Alexandria, Virginia.
Convivium is under the direction of Steven Beck. Mr. Beck holds a Bachelor's of Music from Peabody Conservatory and a Masters in Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and has received the Associate (AAGO) and Choirmaster (CHM) certificates of the American Guild of Organists.
Convivium singers have performed with groups including Carmina, the Cathedral Choral Society, the Choral Arts Society of Washington, the Alexandria Choral Society, Musikanten, the Fairfax Choral Society, the Ron Freeman Chorale, Bel Cantanti opera, the Paul Hill Chorale and Cantate Chamber Singers.
Reviewed occasionally over the years, Convivium has elicited such comments as, "Convivium demonstrated what varied, beautiful music an a cappella ensemble can offer" (Washington Post), and "Convivium's collective love of vocal music was apparent...there was a heartfelt communication between the singers and audience" (Alexandria Gazette).
